Goodnight Sheila Devine (also see YarnsLyrics_v1.pdf.) V1 Train two-fifty-seven with Judge Sheila Devine Leaves Grand Central Station at quarter to nine Cabbies and caseloads are soon left behind Blue pumps lay before her, another glass of wine V2 Turns off her cell, douses the light Wishes dead friends a cheerful 'good night' Cringing in shadow, they whisper in spite You could be wrong or you could be right Chorus: You could be wrong, you could be right Mountains of sorrow, baskets of light Will carry your heart around the bend This is beginning This is the end V3 Trips over turtles asleep in the hall Ghastly reminders hung on the wall No trumpet heralds a last curtain call This is the beginning of the end of it all Chorus: You could be wrong, you could be right Mountains of sorrow, baskets of light Will carry your heart around the bend This is beginning This is the end Bridge: Judge Sheila Devine wakes with a start Tarrytown Station appears from the dark This is beginning This is the end Words and music by David Luck Copyright © 2012. Sweet Lady James Sweet Lady James So sad I missed your burying I’m sure that your body By lilacs was kissed Sweet Lady James So sad I never carried you But then I wouldn’t want you To see me like this You were born Away up in Sarnia Where your poor poppa Sweetened my time Sweet Lady James Born out of loneliness Without a fortune A reason or rhyme Sweet Lady James Travelin’ thru The Delta land Fought the wild Zantibbes And continued to roam Sweet Lady James A young man’s companion Lost in the wind And never quite home Sweet Lady James Found dead in an ally way The lace in your pocket Told them where you had been Sweet Lady James Existing in a lie Being your mother’s lady Was your only sin Music and Lyrics Copyright © 1971, 2009, 2011, 2017 by David Luck. about

Abstract Folk

Luck's work is hard to genrefy, but 'abstract folk' comes close
-- original acoustic guitar-based music that embraces a palette of far-flung musical styles including folk, jazz, rock, blues, cabaret and show tunes. Like traditional broadsides and puzzle songs, meanings may not be handed to you. A song's creation becomes a shared activity between the artists and listeners.

Recorded in New York City, Chicago, Nashville, and Equality AL, "Yarns" contains six songs. The remaining tracks are instrumentals that feature Luck’s signature solo, finger-style acoustic guitar work. Dream on.

"Yarns, Tales and Outright Lies" is the third compilation released by Luck in the past decade. Earlier titles include the all instrumental "Eddie Watches Flo," and "Burnin’ Stove."

“These tunes are whimsical and profound, simple and virtuoso. They are the soundtrack of what you wish your life was like.” – Weston Jones, Five Star review of “Eddie Watches Flo”

". . . Luck’s skills have grown to mind-boggling virtuosity. His picking has been called “ballistic,” and his use and knowledge of open-tuning amaze even the most accomplished traditional guitarists.” - David Granger, Outlook Magazine

“Truly beautiful material! The acoustic steel-string guitar, when played by an expert, can really sound as full as an entire ensemble. David is that kind of expert.” – Ernie Mansfield, Five Star review of Eddie Watches Flo
